FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: proposed device is designed for use in internal combustion engine provided with crankshaft whose angular position is constantly determined by processing signals received from crankshaft position pickup in control unit which generates commands for fuel injection and for ignition depending on angular position of shaft. To recognize valve timing phase after starting the engine, control unit acts onto injection and analyses changes of crankshaft speed as a result of said action. For some cylinders injection is cutoff and there is no injection into said cylinders and output signal of crankshaft position pickup is checked for expected reaction in response to such cutting off fuel injection. Fuel injection is cut off after stating the fact of engine starting within range of speed reduction, said range corresponds to descending branch of starting discharge curve at re-adjustment. Invention makes it possible to create device for recognition of valve timing phases with synchronization without use of camshaft position pickup and additional parts and elements.
