FIELD: building industry and building maintenance, particularly for latent defects and damage detection into multi-layer rolled and built-up roofing. SUBSTANCE: method of roofing inspection involves detecting place of water collection in upper covering layers by waterproofing layer material conductivity change measured by means of humidity meter; determining distance between roofing surface and water collection place on each roofing part as a result of two measurements performed by meter on different distances from roofing surface. Device for carrying out above method comprises humidity meter with body and condenser with fixedly connected plates. Condenser is secured to outer body surface and covered with protective layer. Power source and pointer indicator are arranged inside body. Roller of elastoplastic material is connected to condenser edges. Condenser is covered with protective painting layer. Opposite condenser sides are movably connected to plastic guiding means having box-like cross section. Slot is formed in guiding means. Guiding means provide plane-parallel meter motion along with deforming roller located in guiding means hollow in direction perpendicular to roofing plane. Meter moves over a distance of 3 - 30 mm with temporary fixation thereof in extreme positions. Device has handle with the length of 40 - 160 mm connected to medium device part.
