Abstract RU 2230440 C2

FIELD: ferrous metallurgy; steel production in electric furnaces. SUBSTANCE: method includes electrode cooling down by heat transfer to material injected into electrode, its physical properties being other than those of electrode. Cooling is proposed to be made by introducing metal into electrode and its moving up at speed equal to that of downward movement of furnace electrode while preventing permanent ingress of metal in furnace heat, metal resistivity being lower by several orders of magnitude than that of electrode material and metal smelting temperature, lower than temperature of inner space of furnace bath. Electrode implementing this method has several graphite (carbon) rods joined together with aid of fastening members into integral column that has longitudinal central bore throughout its entire length. Shaft with plug is proposed to be placed in central bore at end part for joint displacement along column with plug disposed in column rod first from furnace bath end; shaft divides central bore into a number of intercommunicating spaces. EFFECT: essentially reduced electrode consumption per ton of smelted steel; enhanced current of heavy electric furnaces. 11 cl, 10 dwg
