FIELD: metallurgy; making steel in open hearth furnaces. SUBSTANCE: open-hearth pool has rear and front banks, transversal banks, hearth where bottom blowing system is arranged; this system is based on VVS system; rear bank is provided with steel-tapping hole. Horseshoe-shaped hill is located before steel-tapping hole whose concave part is directed towards rear bank closing to walls of pool around steel-tapping hole. Height of this hill is dictated by necessity of retaining steel in the amount of 8 to 10% of heat in pool after tapping. EFFECT: possibility of making best use of bottom blowing system based on VVS system due to fast realization; reduced duration of heat. 3 cl, 2 dwg
