FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: the invention is dealt with the field of a metal recovery and smelting, for example, steel, in particular, in an induction furnace of a channel type. The induction furnace contains a heating basin to a charge with metal and carbon with a capability to smelt the charge fin the form, at least, of one congestion on a molten bath surface in the basin. The induction furnace has at least one induction heater, or an inductor located on a center line of the bottom of the basin. Each inductor is built so, that its longitudinal axis is located actually at an right angle in respect to the longitudinal axis of the furnace. The configuration of the furnace and control over conditions of a response inside the basin are so, that the charge is located as a bridge above all the surface of the smelt metal in the molten bath. The invention allows to avoid formation of inhomogeneity in the material motion and to reduce consumption of electric power.
