FIELD: metallurgy of active high-melting point metals and alloys, including rare-earth metals and actinides.

SUBSTANCE: method involves charging briquettes into melting crucible mounted in heating furnace; providing pressurization and vacuumizing of system; removing oil and moisture from briquettes by increasing heating temperature within the range of 200-6000C at heating rate of 5-150C/min for 2-2.5 hours, with waste gas or vapor pressure being maintained at value below 2,000 Pa and vent gas inleakage at pressure of 130-400 Pa/min being provided before beginning of metal melting process; casting ingot. Apparatus has melting crucible mounted in heating furnace, vacuumizer, condenser, and is further equipped with working volume made in the form of isolated jig cavity constructively separated from furnace volume, system for sucking oil vapors and moisture from crucible, inert gas emergency admission system and vent gas suction system. Working volume and said systems are interconnected via pipelines.

EFFECT: increased fire and explosion safety of process, increased efficiency of vacuumizer and method.
