FIELD: inorganic compounds technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to sphene concentrate processing technology to produce titanium-containing products used as sorbents appropriate for treating liquid effluents to free them of heavy metals and radionuclides. Invention consists in that decomposition of concentrate containing titanium, calcium, silicon, and other components is accomplished with 50-87% phosphoric acid at solids-to-liquids ratio 1:2.5 and temperature 110-130оС while simultaneously titanium phosphate precipitate containing further calcium and silicon is formed. Separated precipitate is washed with water to remove calcium to residual calcium content no more than 1 wt %, treated with alkali reagent solution (sodium hydroxide or carbonate solution with pH 10-11) to achieve pH 1-7, and dried at 20 to 80оС to produce desired product. Sorption capacity of thus obtained sorbents regarding radionuclides is increased by 8,5 times in average and that regarding cobalt by 5.5 times.
EFFECT: simplified process and increased (by 14% in average) degree of recovering titanium from concentrate into final product.
