MICROWAVE EXCITER OF ELECTRODELESS GAS-DISCHARGE LAMP Russian patent published in 2004 - IPC

FIELD: microwave and lighting engineering.

SUBSTANCE: proposed exciter is used as part of microwave lighting fixtures incorporating microwave electrodeless gas-discharge lamp as light source disposed in electromagnetic field of translucent microwave cavity excited by microwave pump energy from microwave oscillator. Microwave exciter has toroidal electrodeless gas-discharge lamp disposed in electromagnetic field loop within translucent axisymmetrical microwave cavity using working wave mode TE_01p, where p = 1, 2, 3 … and microwave channel electrodynamically coupled with microwave cavity through slit radiator. Microwave channel is made in the form of supporting pole-column with round waveguide using wave mode TE₀₁ and disposed along symmetry axis of microwave cavity and coupled with the latter be means of at least one radial through slit at butt-end of cavity. Mentioned pole-column with round waveguide is made in the form of set of telescopic coaxial sections of which at least one section is mounted for longitudinal and/or azimuthal displacement relative to round waveguide axis. Pumping energy transfer over this long microwave channel to electrodeless lamp ensures low level of microwave loss; microwave pump oscillator and secondary power supply units are easy to service without dismounting lighting fixture and microwave channel.

EFFECT: enhanced operating reliability and service life of lighting fixture.
