FIELD: catalytic reduction of sulfur dioxide from gas mixtures.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method is used for catalytic reduction of sulfur dioxide from gas mixtures containing at least 10 vol-% of water; gas mixture is passed over surface of sulfur-resistant hydrogenated catalyst in sulfide form at volumetric rate of no less than 2000 h-1 in presence of reducing component, preferably containing hydrogen at molar ratio of reducing agent to sulfur dioxide more than 10 up to 100 at temperature of 125 to 300 C; then, gas mixture is passed (after reduction) through dry oxidizing layer for oxidation of sulfur compounds, namely hydrogen sulfide obtaining elementary sulfur.
EFFECT: enhanced economical efficiency; increased yield of sulfur.
