CHILD-PROOF LIGHTER Russian patent published in 2004 - IPC

Abstract RU 2238476 C2

FIELD: lighters.

SUBSTANCE: proposed lighter resistant to unwanted users has lighter CASE with fuel compartment, valve for feeding fuel from fuel compartment, actuating mechanism mounted for displacement relative to lighter body, locking member, fuel igniter connected to actuating mechanism so that displacement of the latter causes its operation for fuel ignition; locking member is hinged to actuating mechanism so that when it is in closed position, part of locking member is aligned with part of lighter body thereby limiting displacement of actuating mechanism; turning locking member in working position shifts it from mentioned part of lighter body and actuating mechanism can move from first to working position and actuate fuel igniter. Actuating mechanism is provided in addition with top surface, separate bottom surface, and side wall in-between; top surface has lower area and elevated upper area separated by protruding vertical member that functions to prevent excessive turning of locking member. The latter has also finger-actuated part disposed above top surface of actuating mechanism, lip coming downward of one end of finger-actuated part and lighting-member body part coming downward of other end of finger-actuated part; these interacting protruding parts prevent excessive turning of locking member. The latter has in addition turning member set apart from front surface of its body part and provided with second cam surface hinged to first one. Actuating mechanism is provided in addition with locking member and two separated overhanging projections set apart from side wall to form slit between them, each projection also forming transverse through hole. Igniter has in addition turning member set apart from front surface of mentioned part of locking member body; transverse through hole formed by turning member is such that pin can be passed through this hole and holes in overhanging projections to afford hinged joint between locking member and actuating mechanism. The latter has in addition forward protruding member set apart from side wall of actuating mechanism; locking member has channel to receive forward protruding member that limits its movement from side to side. Lighter is provided in addition with shifting member made for displacing locking member to closed position in response to lowering of the latter by user. Shifting member can be made in the form of spring built integral with locking member or separate spiral spring, or metal plate spring joined with locking member.

EFFECT: improved mechanical design of lighter preventing spontaneous operation of igniter actuated by unwanted user.
