SUBSTANCE: distance between adjacent extreme display electrodes of two adjacent display elements is set not to exceed distance between display electrodes in display elements. Picture frames are divided into two semi-frames in the course of producing preparatory discharge between adjacent extreme display electrodes; display elements of even-numbered lines are recorded and displayed in one of them and those of odd-numbered lines, in other semi-frame.
EFFECT: enhanced brightness and contrast of picture; enhanced reliability of control.
