FIELD: radioactive graphite treatment.
SUBSTANCE: radioactive graphite treatment process includes graphite oxidation as well as water and carbon dioxide production. Radioactive graphite is oxidized by superheated steam or steam- incorporating gases at temperature of 250 to 900 °C to produce hydrogen and carbon monoxide. Then hydrogen and carbon monoxide produced in the process are oxidized by oxygen to produce water and carbon dioxide.
EFFECT: provision for separating carbon from other radioactive elements and its transfer to gaseous state.
