FIELD: inorganic chemistry, in particular uranium metallurgy and manufacturing of uranium compounds.
SUBSTANCE: metal uranium is heated in reaction vessel in oxygen-containing medium by external heat source up to 500-9000C. Then external heat source is cut off and reaction vessel is hold up to completion of the process. Reaction vessel forms closed space with internal volume equal 2-4 of charged metal uranium volume and has holes with total surface square equal 5-25 % of reaction vessel surface square. Invention to be acceptable for chemical and nuclear technology.
EFFECT: method for uranium oxide production with decreased energy consumption and improved capability.
