FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to inorganic chemistry, particularly uranium metallurgy and production of compounds thereof, and can be used in chemical and nuclear technologies. The method of producing uranium oxide involves heating uranium dioxide to temperature of 500-900°C in a medium of an oxygen-containing agent in a reaction vessel which forms a closed space with an inner volume which is 2-4 times the volume of the fed uranium-containing product, and having holes whose total area is 5-25% of the surface area of the reaction vessel, followed by removal of the external heat source. Before heating uranium dioxide in the reaction vessel, uranium metal is added to uranium dioxide in amount of 20-40 wt % of the weight of uranium dioxide.
EFFECT: invention simplifies and reduces power consumption of the process of producing uranium oxide.
