METHOD FOR ACTING UPON CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF MELT STEEL BEFORE CONTINUOUS CASTING PROCESS AND DURING SUCH PROCESS AND CRATER FORMATION PREVENTING APPARATUS FOR PERFORMING THE METHOD Russian patent published in 2005 - IPC

FIELD: metallurgy, namely processes for billet continuous casting.

SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of preparing melt steel in main vessel, then pouring it through discharge opening to intermediate vessel and from intermediate vessel at least to one mold. When steel is in main vessel and during stages of pouring steel into one of said vessels elements changing properties of steel together with inert or neutral gas are added to steel. At least during one stage of pouring steel, said elements together with gas are fed through hollow stopper made as one piece with apparatus preventing crater formation while changing position of stopper relative to discharge opening. At lower position lower end working part of stopper is arranged in steel flow leaving respective vessel. In hollow stopper pressure of supplied gas is kept slightly higher or equal to steel pressure acting upon lower end working part of stopper. Continuous casting is also realized through apparatus preventing crater formation.

EFFECT: production of small lots of high quality billets of different chemical composition due to uniform rational feed of alloying elements and(or) killing agents together with gas in melt steel, controlled casting rate, elimination of slag penetration to intermediate vessel and mold.
