FIELD: processes for joining metals by gas-shield welding, possibly for making metallic structures.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of performing welding by consumable electrode in argon-base gas mixture at critical electric current determined while taking into account thermal and physical properties of electrode metal and dimensions of electrode (diameter and extension length) according to formula:

where Icr -intensity of critical electric current, A; γ -density of electrode metal, g/cm3; ρ - specific electric resistance, Om x m; L - extension value of electrode, m; de - diameter of electrode, m; H - latent fusion heat, J/kg; ς - surface tension, n/m; x1, x2, x3, x4, x5 - experimentally determined coefficients depending upon thermal and physical properties of electrode metal and dimensions of electrodes.
EFFECT: enlarged manufacturing possibilities of welding method, elimination of intensified-labor experiments, lowered costs for experimental determination of intensity value of critical electric current.
