FIELD: testing engineering.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises loading an article made of the hard material with the use of an electromechanical shock device, measuring the amplitude of the electromagnetic signal, which characterizes the internal heterogeneity of the article, calculating the amplitude-frequency characteristic of the electromagnetic signal with the Fourier transformation, determining the main maximum and duration of the signal front, which characterize surface rigidity of the article, determining the generalized parameter, comparing the value of the generalized parameter with that obtained from the experimental dependence of the generalized parameter on the strength obtained in advance, and determining the strength of the article from the comparison. Before applying the shock load, ambient humidity and temperature are measured, and humidity and temperature coefficients are determined from calibration curves. The values measured are substituted into an analytical formulae, and the generalized parameter is calculated.
EFFECT: enhanced reliability of testing.
