FIELD: medicine, dermatology.

SUBSTANCE: the present innovation is useful to detect manifestation degree of erythema and melanin pigmentation of human skin. One should measure the coefficients of diffuse skin reflection at three wave lengths, one of which, λ1 , should be chosen in yellow-green spectrum area, and two others, λ2 and λ3 - in red spectrum area and calculate the values of efficient optic density of skin OD1, OD2 and OD3 for every wave length and detect skin characteristics out of these ratios. Index of erythema should be detected by the following formula where Δλ12 = λ21, Δλ23 = λ32. To detect the degree of melanin pigmentation of skin one should additionally measure the coefficients for diffuse reflection of melanin-free skin at two wave lengths chosen in red spectrum area followed by calculating the values for efficient optic density and detecting the degree of melanin pigmentation due to deducting out of ratio the ratio of The innovation enables to detect erythema coefficients and those for melanin pigmentation simultaneously.
