FIELD: general machine engineering, namely methods for making piston rings of sheet steel.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of chemical heat treatment of flat blank along its thickness at side of shaping surface; before chemical heat treatment performing oxidation of flat blank at 300 - 400° C for further cleaning shaping surface. Chemical heat treatment and shaping are realized by electrolysis in ion melts of metals by plating process at 700 -1000°C and by further grinding. Eutectic mixture of lithium and potassium chlorides is used as ion melt. Melt aluminum used as alloying element contains up to 3% of chrome. Shaping surface is cleaned with use of mechanical working. Combination of chemical heat treatment (coating applying) and shaping procedures provides shortened duration of process.
EFFECT: shaping of ring of improved wear resistance, self-compensation of wear of piston ring at operation.
