FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to metallurgy and can be used for strengthening of surfaces of steel piston rings, as well as of other parts of machines, cutting and stamping equipment. Strengthening method of surfaces of steel piston rings involves carbonitridation at carbamide decomposition during 1 hour within temperature interval of 540-580°C in molten salt or in gas medium, application of coating of titanium nitride by means of ion implantation of titanium nitride. Then sulphurisation is performed in electrolytic plasma.
EFFECT: essential strengthening of surfaces of steel piston rings, which allows improving their running-in ability owing to no scuffs and to hardening of friction surfaces; increasing wear-resistance and service durability of piston rings.
