FIELD: industrial inorganic synthesis and radioactive materials technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for recovering uranium from exhausted nuclear fuel as well as from uranium production waste, uranium alloys, and products. Method involves dissolving uranium metal or alloy in nonaqueous solvent in presence of oxidant (in particular chlorine) and direct precipitation from nonaqueous solution. More specifically, dissolution is accomplished in tributyl phosphate/tetrachloroethylene system with 5 to 100 vol % tributyl phosphate and precipitation is caused by alkali metal or ammonium fluoride or hydrofluoric acid. Precipitated uranium fluoride is washed with heterogeneous tetrachloroethylene/water mixture.
EFFECT: accelerated dissolution of uranium-containing materials in absence of evolution of explosive gases and simplified process.
