FIELD: metallurgy, namely electric-slag chill casting, particularly processing waste of steels and alloys, preliminarily welded in the form of electrode.
SUBSTANCE: process comprises steps of simultaneously forming slag and melting metal; placing chill mold under crucible and filling it with metal and slag; superheating slag by 250-300°C relative to metal melting temperature; selecting slag quantity that exceeds by 2 - 2.5 times quantity of slag necessary for normal melting. Construction of chill mold provides filling of slag receptacle only by 5% of the whole slag volume.
EFFECT: enhanced quality of metal castings due to absence of slag-metal structure in upper part, improved outer surface of casting of highly refined metal.
