FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to machine building and may be used in making composite die inserts and injection molds from castings produced by electric slag chill casting. Consumable electrode is made from chips of maraging steel, for example, "ЧС-35ВИ". Quenched chips is degreased and inserted into steel mould 1 to be closed by cap 2 and locked by set of wedges 3. Mould 1 is blown by argon via tubes 4, 5 with calibrated holes to create surplus pressure. Said mould is placed in furnace and kept therein at 490±10°C for 3 h. After cooling, consumable electrode is withdrawn from mould. Electric slag chill casting is performed with melt crystallisation. Casting is repeatedly quenched and water-cooled, machined and hardened by low-temperature maraging.
EFFECT: higher hardness of tool.
