ARROW-LIKE ARMOR-PIERCING PROJECTILE Russian patent published in 2005 - IPC

FIELD: arrow-like subcaliber projectiles with fixed tail unit.

SUBSTANCE: the projectile has a heavy-alloy core with a tail unit, which is installed in the aluminum sector tray provided with a plastic driving band and a thin-walled end piece with longitudinal grooves. The nose of the heavy-alloy core closed by a ballistic fairing, having a helical surface, is step-shaped. A central funnel is made at the front end of the tray, a locking bushing with jumpers of a weakened section positioned in a circular slot of the central funnel made at the front end of the tray. Through ducts providing penetration of power gases of the burning propellant charge inside the thin-walled end piece are made in the tray sectors. The thin-walled end piece with the tray is geometrically closed by means of a lock joint.

EFFECT: enhanced functional reliability of the armor-piercing subcaliber projectile at an increase of the armor-piercing capacity of the heavy-alloy arrow-like core at large distances and angles of impact eliminating ricochets from the obstacle.
