FIELD: processes for applying wear resistant coatings onto cutting tools, possibly in metal working.
SUBSTANCE: vacuum-plasma method for applying wear-resistant coating on base of titanium nitride or carbonitride containing silicon is realized at using molybdenum as alloying component. Coating is applied by means of two arranged mutually opposite cathodes made of alloy on base titanium and silicon with use of built-up cathode of titanium and molybdenum arranged between above mentioned cathodes.
EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of cutting tool due to increased residual compression stresses in coating.
