FIELD: processes for applying wear resistant coatings on cutting tools, possibly at working metals.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of applying wear resistant coating on base of titanium nitride or carbonitride containing zirconium; using in addition silicon as alloying component. Coating is applied by means of two arranged mutually opposite built-up cathodes including titanium and zirconium with use of arranged between them cathode of alloy on base of titanium and silicon.
EFFECT: improved efficiency of cutting tool due to increased residual compression stresses and micro-hardness of coating.
