FIELD: metal working, namely processes for applying wear resistant coatings onto cutting tools.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of applying wear resistant coating on base of titanium nitride or carbonitride containing iron and alloying component such as silicon. Coating is applied by vacuum-plasma deposition process realized by means of two arranged mutually opposite builtup cathodes containing titanium and iron with use of third cathode arranged between said two cathodes and made of alloy of titanium and silicon.
EFFECT: increased residual stresses and micro-hardness of coating, enhanced effectiveness of cutting tool with such coating.
