FIELD: metal working, namely processes for applying wear resistant coating onto cutting tools.
SUBSTANCE: wear resistant coating on base of titanium nitride or carbonitride containing aluminum and molybdenum as alloying component is applied by vacuum -plasma deposition process. Said process is realized by means of two arranged mutually opposite built-up cathodes containing titanium and aluminum with use of third built-up cathode arranged between said two cathodes and containing titanium and molybdenum.
EFFECT: increased residual compression stresses of coating, improved effectiveness of cutting tool with such coating.
