FIELD: processes for applying wear resistant coatings on cutting tools, possibly at working metals.
SUBSTANCE: method of vacuum-plasma applying wear resistant coating on base of titanium nitride or titanium carbonitride containing molybdenum is realized at using silicon as alloying component. Coating is applied by means of two arranged mutually opposite built-up cathodes containing titanium and molybdenum and cathode arranged between them and containing alloy on base of titanium and silicon.
EFFECT: improved efficiency of cutting tool due to increased residual compression stresses and micro-hardness of coating.
