METHOD OF CHECKING SERVICEABILITY OF EXHAUST GAS CATALYTIC CONVERTER Russian patent published in 2006 - IPC F01N9/00

Abstract RU 2267619 C2

FIELD: mechanical engineering; transport engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for checking serviceability of vehicle exhaust gas catalytic converter. According to proposed method of checking serviceability of catalytic converter of diesel engine in process of its operation, catalytic converter is characterized by definite minimum working temperature of beginning of conversion of carbon monoxide and definite conversion rate rcm of carbon monoxide by direct measurement of concentration of carbon monoxide on combination with measurements of temperature. For evaluation of residual catalytic activity of catalytic converter, difference ΔT between actual temperature Ta of exhaust gases at catalytic converter outlet and minimum working temperature Tcm,50%,new of beginning of conversion of carbon monoxide in new catalyst ΔT=Ta- Tcm,50%,new kept in storage as function of rotational frequency and load, and conversion rate rcm of carbon monoxide is determined. Rcm is determined using following formula where ccm,2 is measured concentration of carbon monoxide in exhaust gases after catalytic converter, ccm,1 is measured concentration of carbon monoxide in exhaust gases before catalytic converter.

EFFECT: possibility of direct estimation of catalytic activity of converter after expiration of definite period of operation.
