SUBSTANCE: method to inspect extent of catalyst ageing for reduction of toxicity of spent gases (SG) containing flammable components in an engine of a vehicle, on which inspection of catalyst ageing extent is carried out under operating conditions, a time temperature profile behind the catalyst is measured, time delay is determined between variation of operating conditions and SG temperature change behind the catalyst specified by this variation, and on the basis of this time delay a conclusion is made on the extent of ageing of catalyst, besides, to assess extent of catalyst ageing, the delay is analysed between the start of change of catalyst operating conditions and occurrence of a characteristic criterion of a time temperature profile of SG behind the catalyst, and the characteristic criterion is increase or decrease of temperature profile or its maximum.
EFFECT: provision of catalyst ageing extent inspection at SG temperatures, which considerably exceed the initial operating temperature of catalyst, elimination of increased emission of hazardous substances specified by pulse increase of their concentration in SG in order to inspect extent of catalyst ageing.
