FIELD: metal working, namely processes for applying wear resistant coatings onto cutting tools.
SUBSTANCE: wear-resistant coating on base of titanium nitride or carbonitride containing iron and aluminum as alloying component is applied by vacuum-plasma deposition process. Such process is realized by means of two built-up arranged mutually opposite cathodes containing titanium and iron with use of third built-up cathode arranged between said two cathodes and containing titanium and aluminum.
EFFECT: increased residual compression stresses of coating, improved effectiveness of cutting tool with such coating.
