FIELD: rubber industry.
SUBSTANCE: method consists in interaction of butyl rubber with halogen in inert solvent under conditions preventing presence of gas phase un reaction zone. Interaction is accomplished in three steps: first vigorously mixing butyl rubber solution with halogen solution to form reaction mixture, the vigorously mixing the latter with water followed by phase separation and removal of aqueous phase, and finally completion of butyl rubber-halogen reaction.
EFFECT: minimized changes in molecular mass characteristics of butyl rubber in the course of halogenation reaction owing to suppression of side reactions.
