FIELD: rocketry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to nozzles of large expansion ratio with telescopic bell and it can be used in solid propellant rocket engines. In proposed expandable nozzle of rocket engine containing bell, coaxially arranged head with connected guide cylinder and head locking mechanism to hold head in draw out position, guide cylinder is connected with head by locks for limited radial displacement. Radially arranged and coinciding through holes are made over perimeter in head from smaller diameter side and in guide cylinder in which spring-loaded locks with shaped end part from side of guide cylinder are fitted made in form of plate with bevel. Holes in cylinder change into through longitudinal slots coming to end face of cylinder, with width of longitudinal slot exceeding thickness of shaped section of lock, and mating ring slot is made on maximum diameter of bell.
EFFECT: provision of shockless mechanical separation of cylinder without increasing mass of construction, reduced thrust losses, mass of control actuator and flight mass of nozzle.
