FIELD: dispersed flow hydrodynamics, particularly propulsion engineering, to determine droplet dimension characteristics in air-fuel jet.
SUBSTANCE: method involves atomizing liquid having constant pressure at nozzle inlet to create horizontal atomized jet, wherein large droplets have greater range in comparison with small ones; estimating dimensions of droplets fallen out of the jet under gravity action at different distances from the nozzle; directing air flow along the full jet length in gravity force action direction, wherein the air flow has constant velocity lesser than that of jet; emitting parallel light beams transversely to gravity action direction at predetermined distance from nozzle towards the jet, wherein the beams are serially arranged in common plane so that droplets intersect the beams; determining dimensions of fallen down droplets by determining droplet size distribution bar graph from recorded relative intensity of light beams.
EFFECT: reduced time of droplet dimension distribution determination.
