FIELD: machine engineering, possibly cutting in abrasive cutting off machine tools blanks of constructional, tool, corrosion-proof and refractory steels and alloys used in ferrous metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: method is realized with use of cut-off wheel having height less than width of cut groove and axially shifted peripheral cutting part inclined by angle α to plane normal relative to its rotation axis. Said wheel has on its end surfaces riffles arranged along Archimedean helix and having width equal to wheel height. Ridges of said riffles are in plane inclined by angle β = 1 - 2° along radial direction to side of wheel center. Helices of riffles are multi-start ones with even number of starts. Beginning of Archimedean helix on each end of wheel coincides with one of its generatrices. Axis of cut-off wheel is shifted relative to axis of cut blank and wheel is driven to rotation and to motion relative to blank.
EFFECT: enhanced mechanical strength of cut-off wheels, increased cutting efficiency, lowered heat stress of process, elimination of wheel camber.
