FIELD: powder metallurgy; production of iron-based sintered materials; manufacture of insert seats of valves for internal combustion engines in automobile industry.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes preparation of powder mixture containing iron, copper and material facilitating forming of martensite. At least part of total amount of iron and copper is introduced in form of diffusion-bound iron-copper powder or preliminarily alloyed iron-copper powder. Mixture thus obtained is molded, after which sintering is performed. Article thus produced contains 12-26 mass-% of copper and has iron-based matrix with martensite containing structure.
EFFECT: enhanced strength, wear resistance and machinability.
