FIELD: powder metallurgy, possibly manufacture of inserts of valve seat of internal combustion engine.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of preparing first and second preliminarily alloyed steel powders, mixing, pressing and sintering powder for producing sintered steel. First steel powder contains, mass %: C, 0.5 - 2; Cr, 3.5 - 6; 2Wo + W = 12 - 22; V, 0.5 - 5; Co, 0 - 12; Mno, 0.5; SiO, 0.6; Fe and impurities, the balance. Second steel powder contains, mass %: C, 0.3 - 0.7; Cr, 3 -5.5; Mo, 1 - 2.5; V, 0.3 - 1.5; WO, 2; Mn, 0.1 -0.6; Si, 0.8 - 1.2; Fe and impurities, the balance. 2 - 30 mass % of first powder are mixed with 10 -60 mass % of iron powder and with carbon powder in such a way that to produce final content of carbon in sintered matrix no more than 1.1 mass %. Then second powder is added until 100 %.
EFFECT: enhanced abrasive wear resistance, especially at elevated temperature.
