FIELD: method for controlling parameters of cells for producing aluminum by reducing it from alumina dissolved in bath of melt cryolite.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of forming on inner walls of cell housing skin of solidified melt cryolite; determining factor B so called skin development factor depending upon development of said skin; changing at least one parameter of cell such as inter-pole spacing H and(or) performing at least one control operation such as adding AlF3 depending upon value of factor B. Said factor may be determined according to electric measurements in cell and(or) according to measured surface area of liquid metal layer. Invention provides possibility for effective regulation of cell parameters at values of electric current intensity up to 500kA in electrolytic bath containing AlF3 more than 11% at significantly lowered number of measurements of AlF3 content in bath.
EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of controlling parameters of cell.
