FIELD: gas-discharge engineering; plasma displays and other barrier-discharge devices such as gas lasers.
SUBSTANCE: proposed has-discharge device has sealed chamber filled with gas mixture. Chamber accommodates at least two electrodes disposed so that discharge gap is formed between them. Electrodes are coated with relevant insulating layers. The latter are covered with shielding coat made of material whose sensitivity to electron is lower than forbidden gap width, following dependence being satisfied: χ + Eg ≤ 8.4 eV, where χ is sensitivity to electron; Eg is forbidden gap width. Gas mixture may incorporate xenon. Shielding coat can be made of alkali metal halide such as cesium iodide or of sliver halide such as silver iodide.
EFFECT: enhanced service life of device and efficiency of electrical energy conversion to plasma radiation.
