FIELD: electrical engineering; users incorporating rectifier-inverter converters such as those used for alternating-current consists.

SUBSTANCE: proposed converter is designed to reduce ripple currents by 17% so as to improve surface condition of traction motor commutator due to reduced arcing. Monthly mean power consumption reduced in average by 3.1%, locomotive power factor enhanced in average by 0.025%, and its speed, by 3.4%. This single-phase-to-direct current converter has multiple-winding transformer, at least two rectifier units, each incorporating rectifier series-connected through its output to smoothing reactor and DC motor. Transformer primary winding is connected to supply mains and its secondary windings, to respective rectifier input in rectifier unit; smoothing reactor coils in each rectifier unit are intercoupled by magnetic coupling.

EFFECT: reduced amount of rectified-current ripples due to magnetic intercoupling of smoothing reactors.
