FIELD: testing engineering.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises exciting free decaying vibration in the system, recording the response of the system, plotting amplitude-time characteristic of the system response , determining the natural frequency of the system from the amplitude-time characteristic, and extracting frequency components with a given cutoff frequencies by means of a band filter. The frequency components are used for determining the logarithmic vibration decrements. The natural frequencies of the system are determined from the peaks of the Fourier amplitude spectrum of the system response. The cutoff frequencies are assumed to be frequencies nearest to the natural frequencies of the system from the right and the left at which the Fourier amplitude spectrum takes a minimum.
