FIELD: forestry, in particular, remote monitoring of forests and processing of forest massif images.
SUBSTANCE: method involves providing images of forests comprising test plots formed as digital matrices of dependence of brightness of image-signal I(x, y) upon spatial coordinates by shooting with the help of camera established at orbital observation complex; calculating spatial spectrum; determining relief area of canopy layer Sr; obtaining reference sequence of dependences of known relative forest stand degree on test plots upon area of relieves; interpolating related values of reference sequence from ratio Sr/Sgeom of plot under evaluation, where Sgeom is geometrical area of plot under evaluation.
EFFECT: increased accuracy and statistical stability of data produced from calculation of stock volume.
