FIELD: coke - free metallurgy, namely manufacture of continuously cast billet by reducing metals from metal-containing oxide raw material by means of gaseous and dispersed reducing agents in plasma-chemical reactors.

SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of feeding partially reduced charge and gaseous reducing agent into electric-arc furnace onto surface of melt ore bath through cavity arranged outside working electrode; compensating consumption of working electrode without interrupting process; in zone of electric arc burning creating axial magnetic field promoting uniform heating and reduction of charge while preventing fine particles discharge in such field by means of plasma; discharging gaseous reaction products through inner cavity of working electrode and using them for preliminary reduction. At process of preliminary reduction circular, axial, pulsating or traveling magnetic field is created for optimizing gas dynamics and thermal conditions of reduction. In process of collecting ready product metal crystallization is realized for discharging product in the form of blank suitable for further processing.

EFFECT: lowered specific consumption of working electrode material, possibility for using any gaseous reducing agent with hazard of clogging its inlet duct with coke, lowered consumption of reducing agent.
