FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: iron-bearing oxide raw material and carbon-bearing reducing agent are supplied to thermal action area of the arc in the form of consumable bar workpiece obtained from the above materials in disperse form using a binding agent. Workpiece is continuously supplied at the specified speed through the cavity of the electrode located above ceramic crucible and having the possibility of axial movement. Besides, iron reduction is performed in iron-bearing oxide melt formed on the edge of bar workpiece, as a result of thermal action of electric arc. Besides, a molten pool in the crucible is formed owing to metal and slag supply from the edge of bar workpiece and heated with an electric arc. Arc power and size of particles of disperse carbon-bearing reducing agent are specified based on the condition of equal mass velocities of fusion and reduction of iron-bearing oxide raw material of bar workpiece.
EFFECT: invention allows reducing specific power costs at iron reduction; reducing erosion of ceramic crucible; improving the quality of the obtained iron and improving environmental properties of the process.
