FIELD: polymerization processes and catalysts.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to cationic polymerization process to produce high-molecular weight polymers, particularly to polymerization of isobutylene of copolymerization of isobutylene and isoprene at reduced pressure in presence of catalytic system including initiator and activator forming jointly reactive cation and non-coordinating anion. Initiator is compound of general formula Cp*MMe3, where Cp* is η5-pentamethylcyclopentadienyl, M is Ti, Hf, or Zr, Me is methyl, and activator is prepared by reaction of B(C6F5)3 with co-initiator, which is selected from group composed of alcohol, thiol, carboxylic acid, and fluorinated alcohol. Ratio of co-initiator to B(C6F5)3 ranges from 0.01:1 to 1:1.
