FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ferrous metallurgy, particularly, to steel making in converter with combined blowdown. Method comprises charging solid metal charge and pouring liquid iron, blowing metal with oxygen from above and nitrogen from below, feeding slag-forming and iron-containing materials into converter, at that, during melting, to the converter before the period of intensive decarburisation of metal, additionally magnesian flux is added in amount of 2–15 kg/t of steel containing, wt. %: magnesium oxide 40.0–70.0, silicon oxide 0.5–15.0, calcium oxide 1.0–15.0, iron oxide 0.1–5.0, loss on ignition 20.0–50.0, admixtures - balance.
EFFECT: higher quality of steel due to reduced content of nitrogen and reduced wear of converter lining.
