FIELD: methods and means for contactless determination of the axis of a current-conducting object immersed in a medium, applicable in the fields of industry using pipe-lines and other extended metal service lines.

SUBSTANCE: the main induction signal over the origin point of the required object is formed. Current is induced in the required object. Contactless reception of the induced induction current is accomplished. The maximum value of it determining the point over the required object is searched. An additional induction signal that induces current in all other adjacent current-conducting objects and does not induce in the required object is also formed in a contactless manner. The difference of the main and additional induced induction signals is fixed. The following point of the axis of the sought for current-conducting object is determined by the maximum value of this difference. The device for realization of the method in addition to the main inductor and receiving device has an additional inductor and receiving device.

EFFECT: enhanced truth of the obtained information, expanded field of application.
