FIELD: method of chemical treatment of wood; production of methylated product from waste birch wood which is used as stabilizing and emulsifying agents in various fields of industry instead of methyl cellulose.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes treatment of air-dry wood by 40-% aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide at ratio of 1 g:11 ml which is continued for 2-3 h at room temperature, thus forming alkaline wood; then, filtration and pressing-out are performed, after which methylation with excessive methyl chloride is performed at temperature of 60-80C for 4-6 h at separation of target product by precipitation from products soluble in cold water (5-7C) by heating their aqueous solution to temperature of 95-100C followed by hot filtration and drying of solid residue.
EFFECT: enhanced efficiency.
