FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: target emits photoneutrons when X-rays fall on it and has an elongated housing having a first and a second end. During operation, X-rays enter the housing and propagate in the direction from the first end to the second end, and the housing of the target has such a shape which essentially corresponds to distribution of intensity of the X-ray beam, so that X-ray beams of higher intensity may propagate for a long distance inside the housing of the target.
EFFECT: design of a target with high output of photoneutrons.
